Osbourne speaks about addiction, recovery
By Staff Writer
Drug addiction costs $484 billion in taxpayer dollars every year, according to Drug Addiction Support, a statistics website. Celebrities are not immune to drug dependency, despite the fame and glamour. Many have made headlines for seeking help at rehabilitation facilities, including Kelly Osbourne.
Recently, Osbourne did an interview with People magazine, discussing her former addiction to prescription drugs. The daughter of rock musician, Ozzy Osbourne, said that the pressures of fame and harsh criticism contributed to her drug use. Osbourne admitted to taking up to 50 pills a day during her darkest hour.
"If I hadn't gone into rehab then, I'm sure I wouldn't be here now," Osbourne said in an episode of Piers Morgan's Life Stories, according to Peace FM Online. "I feel very lucky because people die every day from taking painkillers like Vicodin, and I was taking much more than them. Michael Jackson, Brittany Murphy - the list goes on. But I got a chance to fix my life."
Osbourne has been clean since completing rehab and has lost more than 50 pounds since starring on the ABC series, Dancing with the Stars. Rehabilitation facilities can help celebrities and every day people alike quit their addictions.
