Psychoanalytic Therapy

Drug Rehabilitation Psychoanalytic TherapiesBased upon the ideas and philosophies that were developed by the famed Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud, psychoanalytic therapy (also known as “Freudian analysis” or simply “psychoanalysis”) is a broad term that encompasses a wide range of therapeutic techniques and methodologies.

At the core of psychoanalytic therapy is the process through which the client verbalizes his or her thoughts, fears, hopes and aspirations while the therapist attempts to confront and clarify the often unconscious defense mechanisms that the client is employing to shield him- or herself from suppressed truths.

Once popular, now controversial, psychoanalysis has nonetheless been credited by proponents with helping clients to see how they are unconsciously undermining their potential for continued healthy development.
